Bonneville Speed Week Runs August 10 – 16
Annual Speed Week is ready to blast off
at the Bonneville
Salt Flats, with participants hoping to set new land speed
records.
This is the 100th
anniversary of motor races at the classic speedway and a record 515
vehicles are registered to compete. Participants come from all around
the world.
There is also plenty of opportunity for
spectators.
Speed Week is organized by the Southern
California Timing Association. The official
website is a bit old school but has some good info. See the
schedule
here.
The Bonneville
Raceway is located just north of I-80 west of Salt
Lake City, near the Nevada border. Wendover is the closest
community with services.
To illustrate the international appeal
of the event, below are excerpts from this
news release:
PARIS, Aug 09,
2013 (Marketwired via COMTEX) -- For speed addicts, the month of
August means one thing -- Bonneville Salt Flats Speed Week. Since
1912 speed aficionados have been uniting at this world class event,
which has spurred numerous land speed records. Marking their
commitment to timeless quality, smart travel and avant garde style,
DELSEY is extending their support, sponsoring record holder and
fellow Frenchman Laurent Dutruel.
...Dutruel set
records at both the 2009 and 2011 Speed Week races, reaching 143,990
MPH. To kick-off Speed Week 2013, Dutruel and his team have set up a
road trip from San Francisco to Bonneville, carving out a 2,020 mile
route on the most beautiful highways California, Nevada and Utah have
to offer.
